Two trains collide, cars derail in accident on Glass Factory Avenue
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Richmond County deputies responded to an accident involving a train Wednesday evening on Glass Factory Avenue.
Richmond County dispatchers confirmed a call of an accident with injuries involving a train came in at 6:02 p.m. Officials later confirmed that a train had derailed in the incident.
We reached out to railway authorities Norfolk Southern and CSX transportation, the two railways involved.
According to CSX, a Norfolk Southern locomotive struck a CSX train in Augusta. It derailed 17 intermodal cars carrying 34 containers.
There were no injuries to the CSX crew and no release of any hazardous materials. The CSX train involved consisted of two locomotives, 42 loaded and 13 empty intermodal cars.
According to Norfolk Southern, their crew did seek medical attention for injuries that were not life-threatening.
Authorities say there were no reported hazardous materials that spilled or leaked from the derailment, and both railroads are investigating the incident.
