Train derails near Columbia Nitrogen Drive in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Several empty train cars derailed Friday morning at a CSX yard near Columbia Nitrogen Road in Augusta.
At the scene, a train was a jumbled mess with at least three cars off the tracks and two on their side.
The railroad said no one was injured and there was no danger to the public. There were no injuries and no hazardous materials released, and there were no traffic issues, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Although the derailment was close to the Bobby Jones Expressway bridge, the bridge was not struck.

CSX issued this statement:
“Early this morning, a CSX train derailed approximately 12-15 empty railcars at our yard in Augusta, GA. There were no injuries as a result of this incident. CSX and its contractors are developing a recovery plan to safely restore the area. The cause of this incident remains under investigation.”
The sheriff’s agency said deputies would provide any assistance requested by CSX.
