1 arrested after gunfire erupts during fight at Amazon site

APPLING, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Deputies responded early Thursday to gunshots at the Amazon facility in Appling, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
No one was injured, according to deputies.
A large contingent of officers responded to the Amazon site – which includes a fulfillment center and a nearby sorting center – after a report of a fight with gunshots was reported around 5 a.m.
Arriving deputies learned that the three people involved were Amazon employees.
Ronnus Rand, 31, of Augusta, was walking in the parking lot while on a break with 25-year-old Kadijah Robinson, of Augusta, according to deputies.
Rand and Robinson have a child together, deputies said.
Jordan Beale, 20, of Hephzibah, is Robinson’s new boyfriend and when he confronted them, a physical altercation erupted between Rand and Beale, according to deputies.
“It appears that Beale then went to his vehicle and retrieved a firearm,” a sheriff’s spokesman said in a statement.
They then began to struggle over the firearm and Beale fired several shots, according to deputies.
Deputies were able to find Beale inside Amazon, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Beale will be charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, deputies said.
No bond has been set at this time.
It’s been a busy week at the Amazon site. Earlier this week, two employees were arrested on suspicion of stealing more that $20,000 worth of high-tech merchandise.
