Once again, the Olive Road bridge has been struck by a truck? So why don't they fix the problem? It's harder than it sounds.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The often-struck Olive Road railroad bridge in Augusta has been hit again by a vehicle trying to underneath it.

It’s happened countless times, but the apparently well-built bridge has usually withstood the damage.

A beam seems to have been knocked down in the latest crash that happened around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

CSX had crews on the scene inspecting the damage.

Railroad representatives said repairs were made to the bridge, but the road would be closed overnight to vehicle traffic until a bumping post could be repaired.

Despite well-placed signs warning drivers about how low the bridge is, many drivers have misjudged it, hitting the railroad over at least a couple of times a year, if not more.

“Commercial vehicle operators have a duty to know their vehicle height and width,” the railroad said Tuesday. “Drivers should always remain alert, adhere to the posted bridge clearance signs and make sure that their truck can safely clear the bridge before proceeding.”
