Augusta closes in on 3 ambulance providers to gain control of EMS zone
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The bid process closed Monday for the potential next ambulance service provider for Augusta.
Mayor Garnett Johnson has made it a priority to gain control of the city’s EMS zone, so the city of Augusta will have more authority over the space down the road.
But to do so, the city has to apply for the zone through the state’s Department of Public Health by February 10th.
Bids were due to the city by 11 a.m., and in a Zoom meeting held by the city’s procurement department: American Medical Response, AmeriPro EMS, and Gold Cross were selected as potential providers.
Commissioners must make a contract decision Thursday, before the Friday deadline, to send an application to the state for the city ambulance zone. Otherwise, the state decides the next step on who should own the zone
The zone was previously held by Gold Cross EMS, but they gave up their ownership of the zone after commissioners failed to agree on a contract deal after over a year of negotiations.
For the time being, the city and Gold Cross have agreed to a month-by-month contract, while the city tries to apply for EMS zone control and look for a more permanent option.
On Tuesday, the three vendors were chosen:
- AmeriPro EMS, LLC - 9 Dunwoody Park S. Suite 126 Atlanta, Georgia 30338
- Gold Cross EMS , Inc. - 4328 Wheeler Road Martinez, Georgia 30907
- Metro Ambulance Service, Inc & DBA American Medical - 1380 Beverage Drive, Suite D Stone Mountain, Georgia 30083
