Inmates injured in fights at Richmond County jail, Millen prison

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Nine inmates are charged in a large fight at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center that caused several injuries, according to authorities.

Meanwhile, a separate fight injured four inmates at the Jenkins Correctional Center, a state prison in Millen.

Around 6:30 a.m., inmates exited their cells in G Pod of B Block of the jail in preparation to be served breakfast.

Multiple inmates then began to square off, according to deputies.

MEANWHILE IN MILLEN

At 4:06 p.m. Monday, a fight broke out between four inmates at the Jenkins Correctional Center, a state prison in Millen. Three of the inmates were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries, and a fourth was treated at the prison.

A fight began shortly after as DeQuinn Hamlin produced a shank from his jumpsuit and began stabbing Madison Lewis multiple times, deputies reported.

After the fight was over, a search uncovered 10 pieces of sharpened metal commonly referred to as shanks. Two were under the day room toilet, one was in the top bunk of Room 5, one was in the toilet of Room 4, one was in Room 6, one was in Room 13 and four in the toilet of Room 15.

One additional shank was taken from the person of Jeremiah Kelly when a deputy was stopping the fight and locating victims, according to authorities.

An additional shank was located in jail medical after multiple inmates had been through the treatment room.

Who was involved in the fight?

Michael Mitchell – Observed holding a shank, the incident report states. Michael Mitchell approached Stephen Anderson and Madison Lewis while they were being beat and stabbed. Michael Mitchell kicked Stephen Anderson and Madison Lewis and kept others from aiding them as his co-defendants stabbed and beat them, according to deputies.
Roger Fielding – Initially fled out of camera view while pulling a shank from his jumpsuit and was was observed stabbing Dezmin Freeman multiple times, according to deputies.
Tony Landers – Was observed stabbing Jeremiah Kelly and Dezmin Freeman, according to deputies.
DeQuinn Hamlin – Began the conflict by producing a shank and stabbing Madison Lewis, according to deputies. DeQuinn Hamlin then got on top of Madison Lewis and began stabbing him multiple additional times, according to deputies.
Anquavius Hill – Held down Jeremiah Kelly while other inmates were stabbing him, according to deputies.
Reginald Harris – Stood on the steps between the first and second floor armed with a shank but not observed actively fighting, according to deputies.
Farrel Crawford – Armed with a long sock filled with a heavy object, makeshift flail that he used to beat Stephen Anderson in the head and body, according to deputies.
Keeli Ware – Initially fled out of camera view and returned to view in a fist fight with Farrell Crawford, according to deputies. After getting free from Farrell Crawford, he fled again and was not observed participating in any stabbing, according to deputies.
Stephen Anderson – Initially rears back to punch multiple people who approach and are attempting to help DeQuinn Hamlin stab Madison Lewis, according to deputies. Stephen Anderson is knocked to the ground by Farrell Crawford and another unidentified inmate, according to deputies. Stephen Anderson is then assaulted by Farrell Crawford, Michael Mitchell, an unidentified inmate and DeQuinn Hamlin, according to deputies. Multiple other inmates approach, hit, and stab Stephen Anderson while he is on the ground, the incident report states.
Dezmin Freeman – Runs off camera and re-enters with a shank then gets into a stabbing match with Tony Landers, according to deputies.
Jeremiah Kelly – Initially fled and was knocked to the ground, according to deputies. Tony Landers, Anquavius Hill, and other unidentified inmates held him down, and stabbed him, according to deputies. Was later found with a shank, according to the incident report.
Madison Lewis – Initial person stabbed not observed fighting or with a weapon.

Who was wounded?

Jeremiah Kelly – 15 stab wounds to the back, and one deep stab wound to the left bicep which required him to be transported to Piedmont Augusta hospital for treatment.
Stephen Anderson – Stab wounds to left forehead, seven stab wounds to the back, one abrasion to the right elbow, multiple bruises and split skin along the top of his head. Stephen Anderson lost consciousness in jail medical and was transported to Augusta University Medical Center for treatment.
Dezmin Freeman – Stab wound on the left side of his face next to his left eye, a stab wound to the top of his left shoulder, and a stab wound to the back of his left shoulder. Treated in jail medical unit.
Keeli Ware – Cut behind the left arm and cut on his left hand middle finger. Treated in jail medical unit.
Madison Lewis – Cut on and behind the left ear. Three stab wound to the front right abdomen. Treated in jail medical unit.
Roger Fielding – Small cut on the right leg. Treated in jail medical unit.
Tony Landers – Two small nicks on the chest. Treated in jail medical unit.
