EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A free community library at an Evans subdivision was vandalized.

According to authorities, the library in the subdivision of Country Place, 4565 Bettys Branch Way, was vandalized between Saturday afternoon and on Monday morning when the crime had been discovered around 8:39 a.m.

A member of the homeowners association reported the damage that occurred to the small stand where people can take a book to read and/or donate one, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

The glass door of the book stand was shattered by a rock, deputies reported. Several books had been thrown onto the ground.

The community library has been used for about nine months prior to the destruction, and according the homeowner’s association, the library was an instant hit.
