42-year-old man dies in standoff with Aiken officers

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A man has died after a standoff with officers with the Aiken Department of Public Safety on Thursday night.

According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, the victim has been identified as 42-year-old Shanon Crosby of Bamberg County

The coroner’s office says the incident happened at 11:30 p.m. in a parking lot in the 1900 block of East Pine Log Road between Millbrook Baptist Church and McDonalds.

Officials says officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle parked in the parking lot, when the driver of the vehicle refused to exit the vehicle, barricading himself inside.

As officers attempted to talk Crosby out of the vehicle, a single gunshot from inside the vehicle was heard, according to the coroner’s office.

Crosby was pronounced deceased on the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He will be autopsied in Newberry.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigation.
