Haley takes jab at SC Gov. Henry McMaster
MAULDIN, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Presidential hopeful and former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley wasn’t scared to talk a little smack during a rally Saturday in the Upstate.
Haley spoke to a crowded room of ers in her home state of South Carolina at Mauldin High School.
She called her opponent Donald Trump “unhinged” and said he’s too caught up in legal battles.
“He’s not fighting for the American people,” Haley said.
This was also the first time that Haley appeared to offer a public opinion about SC Gov. Henry McMaster’s endorsement of the former president.
While talking about someone asking her why McMaster is standing with Donald Trump, she said: “Oh, I’m sorry, the one I defeated when I ran for governor?”
The crowd erupted in laughter and cheers.
“Well, I’ll let y’all deal with Tim Scott. I’m not going to say anything about that,” Haley continued.
More laughter filled the room.
Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) recently announced his endorsement of Trump.
Trump won every Upstate county during the general elections in 2016 and 2020. But that’s not deterring Haley.
She said it’s time for a new generation of leaders.
“Do we want to move forward with two candidates in their 80s,” she asked. “We need someone who can serve eight years, not four.”
Trump is 77 years old, and President Biden is 81.
Haley says her campaign has raised more than $3 million since the New Hampshire primary, where she lost to Trump by 11 points.
Haley will stay in South Carolina over the weekend, where she plans to campaign in Conway on Sunday.
