ATLANTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Newly elected state Rep. Gary Richardson has taken office.

He was sworn in Wednesday . for the House District 125 seat.

“I am honored to have been elected to serve the people of the 125th House District,” he said. “As a former county commissioner for our district, I promise to continue the fight for conservative values in our great state and deliver positive results for the citizens of Columbia and McDuffie counties.”

Richardson won the seat in a special election last Tuesday to fill Barry Fleming’s position. Fleming resigned the post after being appointed as a judge.

Richardson will be on the ballot again in May, running in the primary for a full two-year term as a Republican. If he wins that vote, he’ll be on the ballot again in November.
