New details in shooting at Diamond Lakes Park in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - We have new details in the case of a shooting at Diamond Lakes Park that happened Monday afternoon.
We received two newly released incident reports on Wednesday — here’s what we found. The reports were made within hours of each other.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene at 2:21 p.m.
The report says a 24-year-old witness told deputies while she was exercising, she heard what sounded like four gunshots. As she looked in the direction of the shots, she saw a crowd of males running with firearms in their hands and one man on the ground.
The report says a 17-year-old male was shot in the right leg. Before deputies could arrive, the report states an off-duty sergeant was helping EMS with the victim.
The sergeant says while he didn’t see the shooting happen, he did see cars leave the scene at a high speed.
The second call came in around 7:50 p.m. A mother reported her daughter not only saw the 17-year-old get shot, she went to school with him.
The mother says the daughter told her over the phone that the alleged shooters demanded she go to Atlanta with them since she witnessed the incident, the report states.
According to the report, the daughter is scared and wants to leave Augusta so that she can be safe.
