AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Two weeks after losing their owner to cancer, two Aiken dogs are getting a happy ending after being adopted together by a loving family.

Two weeks later, Phantom and Ghost were adopted on Wednesday after they saw us report their story.

Because the family lives several states away and weren’t able to take them in, they brought the dogs to the shelter.

When they first got to the shelter, we spoke with the Friends of the Animal Shelter programs coordinator, Kathy Cagle.

“They’re in a kennel right now for 23 out of 24 hours a day. That is not the dream life for a dog who has been in a home,” said Cagle.

Cagle says you can tell they’ve had a good life just by seeing how friendly they are. But for them, life has been different the last few months after they lost their owner.

“He absolutely adored his dogs. He loved them. They were like his family, but unfortunately, he ed at a young age from cancer, so the family tried to rehome them but did not have any luck,” said Cagle.

Cagle says when dogs like Phantom and Ghost come here, the shelter makes them a priority.

“We really do focus on those pets right away when they come in when you go to our social media, you’ll see a lot of that because dogs who have been in a home, they don’t do well here,” she said.

Cagle knows it can be a challenge getting them adopted because they’re getting up there in age, but she says they’re still full of life and the shelter hopes someone takes them in.

“We want them to have the life that their owner would’ve wanted them to have,” she said.

If you’re interested in them, you could call the shelter at 803-642-1537, or just stop by.

Even if they can’t be adopted together, the shelter just wants both of them to find homes.
