Library headquarters to reopen after water incident

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - After a water accident with the city’s utility department temporarily closed the Augusta Richmond County Public Library System headquarters, officials say the main library will reopen Monday.
According to the system’s Facebook page, the main library will reopen at noon.
“Thank you for your patience while we swiftly worked to open our doors to service our patrons,” the statement said on Facebook.
On Sunday around 4 p.m., the Facebook page posted the following message: “Attention Patrons, due to unforeseen circumstances, the Augusta Public Library (Headquarters Location) is closed until further notice. Please check our website and social media for further updates.”
Public Information Officer Diondra Blocker says the temporary closure was due to an accident with Augusta’s utility department.
She says on Sunday around 3:00 p.m., the utility department accidentally hit a water pipe that began flooding part of the first floor of their building on Telfair Street and James Brown Boulevard.
Blocker says no books or other media were damaged during the flooding.
