Atlanta’s airport is once again named world’s busiest

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has once again been named the world’s busiest airport.

And even if you fly out of Augusta, you have a good chance of ing through it, since Atlanta is the main hub and headquarters for Augusta’s biggest carrier, Delta.

A report by the Airport Council International ranked the airport as the “world’s busiest,” with more than 104.7 million engers reported in 2023. The title is based on ACI’s World Airport Traffic Dataset, which analyzes enger, cargo, and aircraft movement statistics of more than 2,600 airports across the globe.

“ATL’s success is Atlanta’s success and being home to the world’s busiest airport underscores our city’s economic vitality,” said Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. “It is a testament to our global connectivity and an affirmation of our city’s place on the world stage. This accolade celebrates not just the Airport’s success but the collective spirit and hard work of every individual who contributes to our city’s lifeblood, and my vision of Moving Atlanta Forward.”

Hartsfield–Jackson has held the title of the world’s busiest airport since 1998 — except for 2020 when China’s Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport won due to pandemic-related circumstances.

“Securing the title of the world’s busiest airport once again is credited to the dedication and ion of the entire ATL team,” said Airport General Manager Balram Bheodari. “Our shared vision of ‘One Team’ and our relentless pursuit of excellence keep us at the pinnacle of global aviation. Every takeoff, every landing, and every enger served is a chapter in our ongoing story of success and service.”
