AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - If you live or work in Augusta and your lunch break features a food truck, you may notice a new blue sticker starting to appear.

A new blue decal is now required on food trucks that operate with a Richmond County business license following the Augusta Commissioner’s voting it in on Monday.

Leaders say this is to help create a stronger vetting process so inspectors know who has the proper inspections and paperwork done. Specifically, if the truck has been vetted by the Augusta Fire Department and the Georgia Health Department.

This all started with complaints about a lack of vetting food trucks during Saturday markets in downtown Augusta.

It only costs $5 a year and would go on the front of food trucks operating in Richmond County.

Despite the new law ing on this decal, a few food trucks we checked in with said they hadn’t heard about it until we asked.

“I don’t see any issue with it, as long as you already have your ducks in a row and you’re doing everything like you should, I don’t see much of an issue with it,” said James Laird with Smokeshow Southern Style BBQ.

Smokeshow Southern Style BBQ has been hopping around the CSRA since 2016 and recently won SRP Park’s fourth annual wing-off.

They say with the low price, it just becomes another step in the process.

“All of our stuff is always on par at any given time, so for us, it’s not really a hindrance I would say I see it more as a benefit, honestly,” said Laird.

With the wording of the new ordinance, this only applies to trucks with a Richmond County business license, meaning it only applies to trucks based with a Richmond County address.

“We’re heading into a busy season as the weather gets warmer. Obviously, we see a little bit of a hike in sales. Overall though, we’re pretty blessed to be as consistent as far as our business goes,” said Laird.

While this new ordinance just ed on Monday, and you need to renew your decal every year on December 31, we don’t know when exactly the new law will be enforced.

We’ve reached out to the city of Augusta, and we’ll keep you updated as soon as we know when it takes effect.
