Students across campus shared how they feel about these new additions.

“As a student, I think knowing that my alma mater is making steps on the right direction to help boost the program,” said Katelyn Williams, a junior Engineering major at S.C. State. “I think that’s really good to hear. I think relying on your alma mater especially when you graduate and knowing that you’re doing positive things is so good to hear.”

“For them to kind of put a lot of emphasis on one major is kind of unsettling in a sense because it just feels like it can’t really progress. It’s a little disappointing,” said Jaren Hill, a senior ing major at S.C. State.

The board also approved the deletion of the professional land surveying degree program due to the low enrollment numbers in the program.

“Within the field of engineering, there is a shortfall within the workplace, within the workforce as well. So therefore, we do anticipate a brief enrollment growth to fill those vacancies within businesses and industries,” said Dr. Evans.

The grant from Dominion Energy will also laboratory upgrades and the hiring of additional faculty for the fall semester.
