Powerlifting champ invites you to compete in charity meet
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Next week, the Augusta South YMCA will be hosting a charity powerlifting event, and the man behind it is Tee “Skinny Man” Meyers.
You may know him as “The World’s Strongest Granddaddy”.
He is a 67-year-old world champion powerlifter from Hephzibah.
“Everybody says what they can do, how strong they are, but they’re afraid to come out and show it,” said Meyers.
The 67-year-old is still lifting more than 600 pounds and winning competitions. Now, he’s getting ready to host one.
“You always want to give back. God has blessed me, and you’re blessed to be a blessing,” he said.
He says all the money raised will go to charity.
If you hope to win, the good news is that Meyers isn’t competing.
“Quit worrying about I might not win, that’s why it’s called competition, it’s not participation,” said Meyers.
Back in January, our Will Volk did a story with Meyers on New Year’s fitness resolutions. Volk committed to getting back in the gym and competing in a future competition.
“You’ve got to be here, Wolf (Volk’s nickname). You’re a nice guy, but you’ve got to come to the gym at least once a week. You told somebody I went to the gym. Yeah, you drove by the gym, you’ve got to come into the gym, Wolf, and get your workout on,” Meyers told Volk.
Volk didn’t work out every week, more like every few weeks, but he still wants to see this through.
“I think, right now Wolf, because you’re such a tough guy, I think you can still do at least 250 pounds by May, what do you think?” said Meyers.
Volk lifted 255 pounds for the story.
The event happens on May 18 at 10 a.m. at the Augusta South YMCA. For more information about g up, click here.
