BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, S.C. (WIS) - It’s time to flap your wings and fly over to Batesburg-Leesville because the South Carolina Poultry Festival has returned to the Midlands!

The festival began Thursday night at 5 p.m. and will continue until Saturday at 11 p.m.

Started in 1987, the Poultry Festival was created by Sara Shealy to recognize the largest industry in the Batesburg-Leesville area. Initially, the festival was a small one-day event featuring a carnival with a few events, but it has now grown into a three-day bash with over 90 vendors, a parade featuring over 100 units and a Pyromusical.

Other events include live performances, a chicken cooking contest, a car and tractor show, and a road race.
