Teen ID’d after collapsing at Youth Development Center
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A 17-year-old male has died after collapsing while playing basketball at the Youth Development Center, according to the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice.
Ozell Burch, 17, from Phoenix City, Alabama, was identified as the teen, according to Coroner Mark Bowen.
Officials say around 11 a.m. Sunday, Burch collapsed in the gym.
According to the department, Burch was transported to Wellstar Medical Center in Augusta where he was pronounced dead at 12:41 p.m.
Officials say there is no indication of foul play, but has requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to handle the investigation.
YDC leaders say, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the youth’s family and the staff at the YDC.”
