Ex-staffer charged over communications with Screven County students

SCREVEN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A former Screven County school employee is facing charges after deputies said several students reported inappropriate conversations.

Screven County Sheriff’s Office says the students reported communication with Karry Thompson, a former school contract employee.

The sheriff’s office said the istration took “immediate measures” to ensure the employee did not return to campus during this investigation.

Officials say Thompson had previously been a paid contract employee and a volunteer with the school’s band.

According to the news release, Thompson had electronically furnished obscene material to two minors during the 2023-2024 school year.

Thompson was taken into custody on May 15 at the Screven County Sheriff’s Office. Thompson was charged with two counts of electronically furnished obscene material to minors, according to the sheriff’s office.
