New details on the suspicious death of Augusta woman

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - We are learning more about a man was arrested the day after being accused of concealing the death of an Augusta woman, according to authorities.

According to the incident report, deputies were dispatched to 2559 Windsor Spring Road about an unattended death.

When deputies arrived, they say they spoke with Marcus Salmond, 46, who stated around 9:45 p.m., his friend Connie McHan was driving on Tobacco Road and began to feel faint.

McHan drove to CVS and called for help, Salmond told deputies.

Salmond then said McHan ed out so he attempted R, deputies say.

Emergency medical services on scene confirmed that McHan had actually been dead much longer, according to authorities.

Salmond continued that McHan had only just stopped breathing, authorities say.

According to an arrest warrant, Marcus Salmond, 46, was arrested the day after authorities say he concealed the death of Connie McHan and moved the body to hinder discovery of whether or not she was unlawfully killed.

He’s also charged with tampering with evidence by altering the crime scene, removing and hiding the victim’s cellphone, according to an arrest warrant.

The incident happened at 10 p.m. May 29 at 2559 Windsor Spring Road, according to the arrest warrants.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen says an autopsy has been scheduled to determine McHan’s cause of death, but he considers it suspicious.

He says his staff responded to the parking lot at CVS on Windsor Spring Road and Meadowbrook on May 29, and McHan, 44, of Augusta, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:45 p.m.
