AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - On Friday, GAP Ministries celebrated 45 years of helping give back to the community.

The nonprofit helps provide birth certificates, photo IDs, cleaning products and even a food bank to those in need.

Friday was a celebration like no other. People gathered at GAP Ministries for food, dancing and more to celebrate four decades of service.

“We are here today for an actual party,” said Nomi Stanton, Executive Director of GAP Ministries.

The celebration is a reflection of the past and the future.

“Even during COVID, GAP was still operational and feeding those in need. We’re looking back at where we were and where we’re going. It’s very exciting,” said Stanton.

The nonprofit has been thriving for years helping serve those in need, but serving the community is a team effort.

“Partnering with other nonprofits is actually what we love to do because collaboration is the key to success,” said Stanton.

With success comes a greater reward for the individuals in the community.

“The goal is to help as many people get back on their feet and see them thrive. That’s simply beautiful,” said Stanton.

Director of Dismas Charities of Augusta, Cheryl Frazier, said: “GAP Ministries have been instrumental in assisting us with obtaining the credentials for our clients and therefore they are able to obtain employment quicker and start their transition back into the community.”

Getting people back on their feet is the goal and will continue to be the goal for the next 45 years to come.

Stanton says they’re excited to see what the future holds, and they will continue to collaborate with other nonprofits, standing in the gap for the greater good of the community.
