AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A homeless man was found dead in a wooded area Friday evening near Windsor Spring Road in what’s being investigated as a suspicious death.

It was one of two deaths being investigated within about 12 hours in Augusta. On Saturday morning, a man was found dead with blunt-force trauma in a Dollar General parking lot on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

In the Windsor Spring incident, authorities say they responded to the Interstate 520 eastbound ramp at Windsor Spring Road to investigate a report of a deceased person.

According to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen, the man was pronounced dead at the scene around 5 p.m.

The death is considered suspicious, according to officials.

The victim’s name will be released once a positive identification has been made and an autopsy has been scheduled, according to Bowen.

The latest deaths came amid a more than two-year outbreak of violent crime that’s claimed more than 150 lives across the CSRA.

They also came a week after a ask for extra law enforcement help from the state.
