Washington-Wilkes football team grows ahead of new season
WASHINGTON, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Summer football workouts are heating up for teams across the CSRA.
The summer is an important time for teams to grow, develop and lay the foundation for what they want to be during the fall and possibly the winter if they play their cards right.
The Washington-Wilkes Tigers are going into year two under the leadership of Head Coach Alex Bradford.
A season ago, the Tigers went six and five and made a trip to the playoffs.
GHSA football teams capitalize on summer padded practices
We were at Westside High School on Thursday morning where a bunch of our local teams hit the gridiron for a competitive padded practice.

In order to build on last year, the Tigers will have a fill a lot of holes after losing 10 seniors, six of whom were all-region players.
In order to get past the first round and make a deep playoff run, all eyes will be on junior standout Tamari Curry, who Coach Bradford has some big plans for this year.
“I’m excited about my quarterback group, that’s what I coach. I’m moving my running back. He was an all-region running back two years in a row, and he’s going to be a quarterback. So, he’ll have some growing pains since he hasn’t played the quarterback position since middle school, but his athleticism will make a lot of things right for us, and he’s done a good job all summer plugging in and being a leader by example,” said Bradford.
The Tigers are kicking off the 2024 season at home against the Hephzibah Rebels.
In case you’re wondering, Washington-Wilkes’ annual showdown with Lincoln County is scheduled for October 11 in Lincolnton.
