GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - We are learning details after a fetus was recovered from a dumpster at the Grovetown Walmart on Steiner Way, according to a spokesperson with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials did not release what time they responded to the scene, but News 12 started receiving calls around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials with WellStar MCG Health alerted authorities about a patient who had given birth and the fetus being placed in the trash at the Grovetown Walmart.

The sheriff’s office says based on that information, officers went to the store and recovered the body.

Officials say the mother and the husband were both interviewed.

The body was described as an early-term fetus that was not viable outside the womb, according to officials.
