Here’s an update on Furys Ferry Road project
MARTINEZ, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Furys Ferry Road has been under construction since 2021.
But delays have been an issue plaguing the project for months.
The road widening project in Columbia County continues to cause lane closures along Furys Ferry Road.
Kyle Titus is the engineering services director for Columbia County, and he says these closures mean progress.
Will new Westmont Elementary be ready for students next week?
When students come to Westmont Elementary next week in Columbia County, they’ll be in a brand-new school. But work seems to be going down to the wire to finish it in time.

“In totality, they are probably about 70% complete with the project. When you look at it, it doesn’t look like that much,” he said.
Titus says now that roadwork is in full production they expect to finish by mid-2026.
He says the project would have been completed in early 2026 but weather and supply chain demands caused delays.
“The repeated evening showers have really dampened their progress because each time it happens, they have to stop back, clean up the damage from the rain before they can really move forward,” said Titus.
Phillip Dukes is a manager at Wife Saver restaurant.
Aging equipment causes issues at Augusta lock and dam
This time last week, the Savannah River saw low levels even with all the rain. The cause was a door issue at the lock and dam after lightning struck a powerline.

He says this has been tough on them.
“People who are used to coming home this way maybe take a different route home, so they are not ing by us and not stopping in. so definitely hurts business that way,” said Dukes.
Titus says they let county residents and businesses know 72 hours before a closure, but he is excited after three years there is an end in site.
“I know how much of an inconvenience it is for the citizens in this county. So anytime I’m out on a job site and I see progress, it makes me really happy to see these projects come to fruition,” said Titus.
Titus says Columbia County is working with the school district to stop lane closures around school drop off and pickup times.
