Kamala Harris to return to Georgia with running mate this week
ATLANTA, Ga. - Less than two weeks after her Tuesday visit to Atlanta, Vice President Kamala Harris plans to return to Georgia on the presidential campaign trail.
Harris will appear in Savannah on Aug. 9 as part of a “battleground state tour,” her campaign announced on Thursday. The candidate’s currently unknown running mate is scheduled to her.
Donald Trump falsely suggests Kamala Harris misled voters about her race
Donald Trump appeared before the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago Wednesday in an interview that quickly turned hostile.

The other rallies on the tour include:
- Philadelphia on Aug. 6.
- Eau Claire, Wis., on Aug. 7.
- Detroit on Aug. 7.
- The Research Triangle in North Carolina on Aug. 8.
- Phoenix on Aug. 9.
- Las Vegas on Aug. 10.

The events will each take place in the afternoon or evening, with no specific times or venues yet announced.
Harris’ Savannah appearance will mark her seventh trip to Georgia this year. On July 30, she held a rally at the Georgia State University Convocation Center in downtown Atlanta, which was packed with thousands of cheering ers.
Georgia outreach pushes to get Gen Z voters to polls
Just over three months remain until Americans decide which candidate will lead the country. And Georgia will play a big role.

“The momentum in this race is shifting,” she said during the event. “And there are signs Donald Trump is feeling it.”
Trump and JD Vance also have their sights set on Georgia, hosting a rally on Saturday in Atlanta also at the Georgia State University Convocation Center. Before picking his running mate, Trump visited Rome, Georgia, for a rally in March.
Harris is the Democratic party’s presumptive nominee after current President Joe Biden stepped out of the race on July 21. Every Georgia Democrat in the state House and Senate endorsed her, as did Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.
The Democratic National Convention, where Harris will learn her fate as a candidate, starts on Aug. 19 in Chicago.
In the meantime, Harris advisers, led by former Attorney General Eric Holder, have been combing through reams of paperwork submitted by potential running mates, while the candidate herself is holding personal conversations with the finalists, according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss details that haven’t been made public.
Harris, according to another person familiar with the matter, is seeking someone with executive experience who can also serve as a governing partner. Notions of a so-called short list have not stopped those on the Democrats’ broader national bench from finding the spotlight.
