Homeless woman ID’d as victim of Ellis Street shooting

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A 54-year-old woman has been identified as the victim of a shooting on Ellis Street in July, the Richmond County Coroner announced Monday.

Argie Jones, 54, who was homeless, died after being shot during an incident on Ellis Street, Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen says.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said he responded to Wellstar/MCG about a shooting death that occurred July 27 in the 1900 block of Ellis Street.

The woman was shot at least one time and transported by EMS to Wellstar/MCG hospital, Bowen said.

She was pronounced dead on July 31 at 7:30 p.m., according to Bowen.

It was the fifth fatal shooting in Augusta and the seventh in the CSRA in July.
