AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - An arrest warrant and incident report from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office paint a vivid picture of the crime a former Atlanta police officer is accused of in Augusta.
Benjamin Travis Hopson, 34, was arrested Saturday on a charge of enticing a child with indecent purposes.

The incident happened June 1 near Westside High School, according to an arrest warrant.
The warrant alleged Hopson saw the victim, a 14-year-old boy, walking alone at 1017 Seteven Creek Road, stopped his vehicle and asked the victim to approach.
The warrant alleges Hopson asked the child to perform oral sex in return for compensation.

Authorities said Saturday morning they were looking for Hopson in connection with the crime, and he’d been arrested by 1 p.m.
The Atlanta Police Department said it is aware of the investigation into Hopson, a former public information officer. Hopson was “relieved from duty and placed in a non-enforcement, istrative assignment” in May 2023, the Atlanta Police Department said.
