AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - An outdoor burning ban was lifted in all South Carolina counties on Monday morning, almost a week after being issued.

The ban was lifted for Aiken, Saluda and Greenwood counties on Monday at 6 a.m.

The ban was lifted for Edgefield, Laurens and McCormick counties at 5 p.m. Friday.

If you plan to burn storm debris you must let the South Carolina Forestry Commission know.

The ban will remain in place for Greenville and Spartanburg counties until further notice.

The ban issued by the South Carolina Forestry Commission isn’t due to wildfire risk but to avoid straining first responders, who are working on the Hurricane Helene response.

The ban prohibits outdoor burning outside city limits and includes yard debris, burning for forestry, wildlife, or agricultural purposes, campfires, bonfires and other fires for recreational purposes.

The ban does not apply to fires used for the preparation of food or fires used in appropriate enclosures (portable outdoor fireplaces, chimineas, or permanent fire pits constructed of stone, masonry, metal or other noncombustible material that conforms with all applicable South Carolina fire codes).
