Ga. family uses tragedy to promote holiday road safety
NEWTON, Ga. (WALB) - One Georgia family is using their tragedy to promote travel safety ahead of the holidays.
In November 2021, 17-year-old Morgan Williamson and her grandmother Ginger Davis were killed when their car overturned and crashed into a tree in front of a home. Their family says after further investigation, they found out another driver, who was late for work, allegedly ran them off the road.
It happened at what should be a happy time of year for families.

Now the Williamson family has one message for drivers this holiday season.
“Be mindful of everybody on the road because you want to make sure that you make it home to your loved ones,” said Shawn Williamson, Morgan’s father.
A cross stands at the exact spot where the crash happened.
“Maybe this cross will be a little bit of a reminder to everybody that’s coming down the road to just slow down a little bit and be mindful of everything around you,” Shawn Williamson said.

The Georgia State Patrol says there were 665 crashes statewide during the Thanksgiving travel period.
Sgt. Robert Crobin with GSP said he’s hoping there will be fewer fatalities during the Christmas travel period.
From Dec. 24-26, GSP will start its Christmas patrols, and then from Dec. 30 to Jan. 1, there will be extra patrols during the New Year’s travel period.

“We do not want to see anyone lose their life in a traffic crash. I mean it’s heartbreaking for me,” Crobin said. “People have got to practice the basics of the roads because if you do those basic things your life possibly might be saved.”
