AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - City and county officials have set a deadline for Aiken County residents to place Helene debris on the road right of way.
The city of North Augusta, the city of Aiken and Aiken County have worked in cooperation in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene to provide for the removal and disposal of storm-related debris.
Officials say in an effort to plan for the final steps of the project, a deadline has been established for those that have not gotten their storm-related debris placed on road right of way.
City and county officials have set a deadline for Aiken County residents to place Helene debris on the road right of way.
The city of Aiken took a big step toward preparing for the future. The groundbreaking for a water treatment plant might not sound like a big deal, but it is.

If you have not yet moved your debris to the road right of way, officials are asking that it be completed no later than January 5, 2025.
While the collection efforts will continue after January 5, a deadline will aid in the efficiency of the project.
Officials say this schedule is dependent on several factors, including weather conditions and the availability of subcontractors to do the collection.
They also say to note that roads owned by the state of South Carolina have their own deadline and their debris collection is operated independently from the local government efforts.
