Thieves saw their way into S.C. store to get $1M in sunglasses

BLUFFTON, S.C. (WTOC) - Authorities in South Carolina are investigating a break-in at an outlet mall that involves a million dollars worth of stolen merchandise.

According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, thieves struck the Tanger Outlets Hilton Head during the overnight hours last weekend.

The incident report states holes were cut into the wall between the Salty Dog store and the Sunglass Hut by a power saw.

Deputies said 1,600 pairs of sunglasses were stolen, totaling around $1 million.

Investigators said the surveillance system in the Sunglass Hut was cut and taken during the burglary but the holes seemed to start in a back storeroom and into a changing room.

On top of the stolen merchandise, deputies said the thieves caused thousands of dollars of damage to the stores.
