SLED charges 2 Bamberg County inmates with arson

BAMBERG, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has charged two Bamberg County inmates with arson.

SLED says they have charged Jimmie Lee McMillan, Jr., 30, and Jeffery Antwan Augustine, 32, with arson in the second degree on Jan. 15.

Officials say both Augustine and McMillan are inmates at Bamberg County Detention Center.

The Huger man who was charged in connection with a confrontation involving a driver last week now faces an additional charge, Sullivan’s Island Police say.

Arrest warrants state on Jan. 2, McMillan and Augustine set fire to combustible materials inside the Bamberg County Detention Center, causing damage to the structure and endangering the lives of other detainees and staff.

The arrest warrants also state the inmates were caught on video surveillance during the crime.

The SLED investigation was requested by the Bamberg Police Department. SLED’s Arson Unit assisted with the investigation.

The 2nd Circuit Solicitors Office will prosecute this case.
