The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services confirmed more deaths related to Hurricane Helene, five months after the storm devastated much of Western North Carolina.

By Feb. 7, the death toll had risen to 106.

The most recent deaths, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, were related to complications from environmental exposure after a home was washed away in the flooding.

The most common cause of death attributed to the storm was drowning.
