AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Local organizations came together for a dinner recognizing Team Rubicon for helping clean up after Hurricane Helene.

Team Rubicon has been in Augusta for over 100 days, helping with cleanup efforts.

On Thursday, the community and city officials told them thank you with a meal and some Valentine’s Day treats.

“It’s so meaningful to the city of Augusta. I mean, it’s so meaningful being a citizen myself to understand that their organization in the United States of America that care enough to want to come and us at one of our lowest points and they are lifting us up to come back to be prevalent again,” said Butch Gallop with Gallop and Associates.

Team Rubicon has helped people in Richmond County with roof tarping, chainsaw operations and debris removal from Hurricane Helene.

Giving back is something Incident Commander Jeff Marshburn has done time and time again to Augusta. This is his third trip back and is on his sixth week in the CSRA.

He says being in a community like ours is a humbling experience.

“I can’t say enough good stuff about the community. People like Pond Maintenance and Coastal, who’s hosting us tonight. It’s just been every day someone pulls us aside and gives us a hug and tells us they have seen us out in the field, and they are glad to see us and know we are doing great stuff for us. Like I said it’s just humbling,” said Jeff Marshburn, incident commander for Team Rubicon.

He says they are extending their efforts in helping until March 23 or as long as the city and county needs them.

“We are truly honored to have Team Rubicon to come out they come out from all over the United States every week to help us out and to help the citizens of Augusta out cleaning up the debris without being paid so they are doing it out of the kindness and love of their heart,” said Tamika Bean, executive assistant to the Augusta mayor.
