ORANGEBURG, S.C (WRDW/WAGT) - On Monday, the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office held the grand opening for it’s new substation.

The event was held at the Holly Hill Town Hall at noon.

Their new Holly Hill substation location caters to those who live in surrounding areas, hoping to make it more convenient for residents in the eastern region of the county.

Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said this was a long time coming. He said they picked Holly Hill as the location because it’s a central spot for those in other nearby towns.

He said this way community won’t have to make a 45-minute drive to the headquarters in the heart of Orangeburg to file or pick up a report or other needs community may have.

During the operating hours, there will be an officer there to help with any istrative work, as well as a victim advocate to help with other services.

Ravenell said because of their lack of manpower at this point, the substation won’t necessarily improve response times, but he does believe this a huge step in the right direction with their partnerships with other local police departments.

“They can’t do our job for us. They can assist and help us, but they can’t do it for us. So we try to be here to try to lighten the load because if somebody comes here they have to or go to the Holly Hill Police Department, they’ll call us and hopefully now we’re here to take care of it ourselves,” Ravenell said.

The substation will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

If no one is in the office, Ravenell said there will be information posted on the door to get in touch with someone.
