Breaking down barriers: Organization gives wounded veteran new home
LINCOLNTON, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - In 2023 the rate of veterans experiencing homelessness rose 7.4% from 2022 to 2023, according to the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Homes For Our Troops is helping to bring that number down by giving a wounded veteran an accessible house for their needs.
Saturday was the groundbreaking for one veteran’s home in Lincolnton.
Army Captain Joseph Caley and his family chose Lincolnton to be their home.

The build process has already started for the home. The community was able to take part by g planks that will be used in the home.
Homes For Our Troops says it’s not charity, it’s a debt they pay.
“To get them into a home where they can feel respite and they can be comfortable and do things that they’re not able to do,” said Niqui Laviolette, community engagement coordinator, Home For Our Troops. “We’re here to take down the barriers that they have in an everyday home so they can live the rest of their lives and put their focus where it matters.’
The veterans in this program do not pay any money for their new homes. If you want to participate in the next community project or donate, you can visit the organization’s webpage here.
