Augusta government warns of penalties for illegal signage
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Augusta government is taking a stand against signs on public property.
Businesses and the public are reminded that signs are unsightly and go against city ordinances, which could result in penalties.
Consequences of illegal postings include 60 days in jail, a $1,000 fine, and the probation, suspension, or revocation of a business license.
Augusta leaders provide update on Helene debris cleanup
The city of Augusta says it’s nearing the completion of debris cleanup from Hurricane Helene.

“Our goal is to maintain the beauty and safety of our city while ensuring compliance with local laws,” said Tameka Allen, City of Augusta. “Illegal signs create visual clutter, distract drivers, and can obstruct pedestrians. We are committed to enforcing regulations to keep our community clean and orderly.”
While Code Enforcement is actively monitoring for violations, those who would like to report illegal signage can call 311 or use the MyAugusta 311 app.

Columbia County officials are holding a meeting on Tuesday to hear your inputs on the plan you want to see.

Businesses and individuals are encouraged to use approved methods for ment, such as permitted signage and designated community boards.
This is part of an effort to beautify Augusta. On March 4, Code Enforcement staff said they had pulled up nearly 2,500 signs and other trash left after Hurricane Helene.
