Columbia County officials launch ‘Foundations for the Future’ plan
EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Tuesday marked the launch of the Columbia County Foundations for the Future comprehensive plan.
The plan is designed to connect those that live and work in the county with the leaders to highlight the areas of development and track the plans in progress.
The community involvement in the future of Columbia County gives residents a say and they have a direct hand in those developments.
Tips and tricks to soothe seasonal allergies across the CSRA
Pollen is on the rise in the CSRA, and you may have seen it. Tree pollen counts are expected to be high this week, and grass pollen is rising as the spring solstice is right around the corner.

“So when you see a rezoning that comes down the road that you’re like, ‘you know, we talked about that at the comprehensive plan at one point and I’m glad to see that,’ you know, something’s finally come of that,” says Scott Sterling, Columbia County Planning Services Divisions director. “We’ve had that with, you know, sporting areas, the hospitals have been one that in years past has come up before, so you know it’s a valuable input opportunity.”
For those who live, work and play in Columbia County, many have their thoughts on the future.
“I think there should be more facilities to inspire physical activity,” Yniguez says. “Parks like this are great, you know, maybe something like that. My daughter loves it. She loves playing with the other kids, you know, and I think it’s a very healthy environment for her.”
If you ask most neighbors, whether they’ve lived here four or 40 years, they’ll tell you growth is all around in the county.
Following Trump order, VA to halt treatment for gender dysphoria
The Department of Veterans Affairs, which has a huge presence in the CSRA, announced Monday it will phase out medical treatments for gender dysphoria.

The hospital, Amazon facility and White Oak Business Park are a few examples the county’s planning services director says could impact the plan.
The plan will focus on key areas, including recreation, sustainable growth, local business , and character preservation.
“This is an important vision document for everybody,” says Sterling. “And this is what you look at when you move to a community and say ‘where are they going? What are their plans?’ And this kind of lays that out. Tells you where you’re gonna get your residential, where you’re gonna get your commercial and your industrial.”
