GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - An 18-year-old daycare worker has been charged with cruelty to children after allegedly dragging a 4-year-old child across the floor, we learned on Friday.

On Wednesday, the Grovetown Police Department says it was ed by a parent wishing to file an incident report in reference to their 4-year-old child having been injured at the A World of Hope Daycare located at 671 East Robinson Avenue in Grovetown on Monday.

Upon speaking with the parent, deputies learned that they had been ed on Monday by the Assistant Director of the daycare, who advised that the child had approached her complaining of her arm hurting.

The Assistant Director told deputies they advised the parent that per daycare protocol, she had reviewed surveillance footage, at which time she observed an employee, Ms. Jayla Roberts, 18, dragging the child across the floor by her wrist before picking her up off of the floor by both wrists.

The parent was provided with a copy of the surveillance video and advised that Roberts had been terminated, according to the police department.

“The parent then transported the child to a local medical facility, where, upon examination, it was determined that the child had suffered a radial head subluxation,” the police department said in a press release.

Officers say they were able to view the video given to the parent, which corroborated what they had advised.

On Thursday, Roberts was interviewed at the Grovetown Police Department, where she was subsequently arrested and transported to the Columbia County Detention Center.

Officers say that at the time of the incident, the child was being generally uncooperative with Roberts and ignoring her instructions.

“While we do not believe that this was a case of overt intentional abuse, the actions of Ms. Roberts did result in the child sustaining a partially dislocated elbow,” the sheriff’s office said.

Roberts is charged with cruelty to children in the first degree.
