Man dies after equipment falls on him at work

HOLLY HILL, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A 23-year-old man has died after a piece of equipment fell on him while at work on Thursday.

The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office says Juan Carlos Lopez, 23, of Orangeburg was working with a piece of equipment at DCC Metal Recycling when part of it collapsed on him, causing blunt force injury to the chest.

Lopez was attempting to take something off the forklift that was possibly slowing down the forklift’s movements, according to an incident report.

Aiken County investigating death of woman struck by train

31-year-old Alyssa Brown was struck by a Norfolk Southern Railroad train Wednesday morning.

He had the lift portion lifted above his head as he used a torch to reach something that was wrapped around the chainlink belt of the equipment to cut it loose.

However, the lift fell on top of him.

Lopez was pronounced dead on the scene Thursday, according to the coroner’s office.

The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office is working with OSHA to investigate the death.
