Aiken businesses see ‘really busy week’ during golf tournament
AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Golf festivities have wrapped up for the CSRA and area businesses saw Amp the Alley and other events bring solid traffic over the last week.
We checked with Aiken businesses and — believe it or not — they say it was busier this year compared to previous years — which means it was overall a true success.
“It was really busy this past week,” Dina Coleman, the manager of White Rose Eclectic says. “We get so many out of towners and people who come every year or every other year, so it’s definitely a lot of a lot more traffic”

A Burke County High School student got the ultimate birthday surprise Monday.

Some say this year is the busiest they’ve seen yet.
“Last week was a really good week for us,” Mary Scott Valentine, a Takosusi employee says. “We saw an uptick in business over last year.”
With golf week, Amp the Alley, and the Art Walk —it’s been nothing but revolving doors Downtown.
Busy skies across the CSRA as patrons return home
After all of the golf week excitement, the skies are busy as everybody returns home.
“It’s amazing how many planes that we see coming and going this time of year,” Coleman says. “Definitely a big uptick in people walking around downtown. The restaurants are busier and we had a lot of traffic.”
“We definitely had some really big days last week, especially in the evenings, we had a lot of foot traffic,” Valentine explains. “We kept the doors open. And we’re hoping people will come in and eat with us.”
Businesses are always finding ways to spruce up.
Triple Crown Golf Classic s 2 local non-profits
On Monday, golfers took to Woodside Country Club for the annual Triple Crown Golf Classic, which s two local non-profits.
“Maybe next year we will do a golf-themed window or something, that kind of just appeals, but we still get the traffic either way and we always have great windows,” Coleman explains.
But every year, the Aiken charm keeps people from all over — coming back.
“I really appreciate all of our clientele and so many out-of-towners who come back year after year just to visit with us and see what we have,” Coleman says. “It’s really just a nice place to meet people and see the locals as well.”
Rewards of golf week to stick around for local businesses
The tournament week rush is over, but the benefit lingers for some downtown Augusta storefronts.
“We’ve had a few people come in that tell me they come here every year,” Valentine explains. “So, we were excited to see some faces returning and we hope that we got some new customers that will return next year.”
And just because golf week is over does not mean the fun is over in Aiken — there’s still plenty of fun activities, like the Hopelands Concert Series.
