AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - This week, a hospice social worker and Sandy Farms in Aiken teamed up to give one woman her final ride.

The Dream Foundation helped make this a reality, bringing happiness not only to her but her family as well.

Patrisha Turner says her mother was able to fulfill her last wish of riding a horse again.

Her mother rode horses in her youth and hadn’t been able to do so for some time.

The family learned of her final wish a few weeks ago and talked about the dream being fulfilled.

“It makes me feel pretty awesome. I’ll cherish it and it forever,” said Turner.

We also spoke to an employee at Sandy Bottom Farms who helped make the dream come true.

“These animals are designed for what we think to be fun, and I’m so impressed. A lot of times, the fun is taken away from the work aspect of it, but you come in here, especially in a situation like this, and you can brighten someone’s day or, in this situation, brighten someone’s life. Man, that’s what it’s all about. I mean, just seeing her smile when she was on the horse, there is nothing that can replace that,” said Tripp Flowers, who works at Sandy Bottom Farms.

“Eternally grateful. I mean, it was raining when she got here, and I told her and the family, ‘Do you wanna ride? We’re gonna ride in the rain. We’re gonna make it work.’ And then she puts that trust in us. Just privileged to give her that really,” said Flowers.

Despite the rain on Thursday afternoon, it let up long enough for two horse rides, complete with seeing a rainbow.

The Dream Foundation grants ‘dreams’ to terminally ill adults and their families.

Not only can you apply for a loved one to receive a dream, but the foundation also has an option for you to help make someone else’s dream a reality.

It doesn’t have to be money either; the Dream Foundation takes air miles as gifts, too, to help transport dreamers where they need to go.
