Edgefield County deputies seek help on decade-old murder case

EDGEFIELD, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help solving a decade-old cold case.

On Aug. 21, 2015, Walter Winn and Linda Scott were working at Winn’s Grocery, a local fixture at 406 Highway 378 West in Edgefield County near the McCormick County line.

Winn was fatally shot during a robbery attempt that day.

There was a deadly shooting on Bomba Street in Barnwell County that resulted in 22-year-old Adam Clark of Barnwell dying.

Several leads were developed at the time, but the case remains unsolved.

As the 10th anniversary of this case approaches, the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office is asking for assistance on any possible leads.

Suspect wanted in exploitation of Augusta 67-year-old man

Richmond County deputies are looking for a 41-year-old man wanted on suspicion of exploitation of an elderly or disabled person.

“We want to serve justice and help bring closure to the Winn family,” the agency said Friday on Facebook. “If you were in the area during the time in question and saw anything, we are interested in talking to you. You never know how little pieces of evidence might be put together to make a significant contribution to solving this heinous crime.”

Authorities do know the robbers were two Black males and that the robbery attempt happened around noon.
