COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A former Vice Presidential candidate will speak in the Palmetto State later this month.

The South Carolina Democratic Party said Tuesday that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will be the speaker for its convention on May 31 at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds in Columbia.

Walz ran alongside former Vice President Kamala Harris on the Democratic Party’s ticket for the White House in 2024.

“Governor Tim Walz brings the kind of experience, heart, and vision that defines strong Democratic leadership,” South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Christale Spain said in a statement. “We are honored to welcome him to South Carolina to help rally Democrats around our shared values as we take on the GOP in 2026.”

Walz won’t be the only governor from another state attending events that week. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore is set to give a keynote speech at the party’s Blue Palmetto Dinner on May 30, also at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds.
