Father accused of running school bus full of students off the road after adult allegedly assaults his kid
MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF/Gray News) - A man is accused of running a bus full of kids off the road after an altercation on the bus between his child and an adult.
The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office said an altercation happened on a school bus Thursday afternoon between a student and the school bus monitor.

Video from the bus allegedly shows the bus monitor, Sharona Cooper, physically assaulting the student who refused to sit down.
Cooper was charged with third-degree assault for using her arm to restrain the student from moving down the aisle of the bus.
After the incident, the student was taken back to the school, where his parent, Anthony Chavis, was asked to pick him up from the ’s office.
Chavis allegedly became verbally abusive to the istration and law enforcement and yelled profanity and racial slurs to intimidate them.
While the bus was back on its route, Chavis followed it and forced the bus off the road and blocked the bus path with his vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
Chavis allegedly got out of his car and began punching the bus and trying to pry open the doors, damaging the doors.
The bus was able to get around Chavis’ parked car and drive away, but Chavis threw something at the bus that broke through the back window.
The bus was carrying 19 students at the time, as well as the bus monitor and the driver. Chavis also had 5 of his children in his car.
The entire altercation was caught on the bus’s recording system.
Chavis was arrested and charged with interfering with a school bus operation, child endangerment, threatening the life of a public official, aggravated breach of peace, malicious injury to government property and disruption of school.
He is currently at the Marlboro County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing. Cooper also remains in custody pending a bond hearing.
