AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The South Carolina Department of Social Services has started its Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) for 2025.

All South Carolina counties in the CSRA are participating in the program.

The program is from a seasonal federal grant that provides seniors 60 and older access to fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers’ markets.

To be eligible a person must be 60 years old or older, live in one of the participating counties, and have a household income that doesn’t exceed 185% of the federal poverty income limit.

The South Carolina Office of Resilience (SCOR) is holding public information hearings in Aiken County Tuesday and Orangeburg County in June.

In 2025, SFMNP is giving seniors five $10 checks to purchase produced from authorized farmers’ markets.

The program starts June 1 and the application must be completed in person at approved, local senior-serving organizations.
