Investigation underway at Augusta jail over missed meals
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - An investigation is underway at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center due to some inmates not receiving meals.
Officials say the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office received a Facebook message from a concerned parent who stated their child, who is an inmate at the jail, had missed a meal.
The sheriff’s office says supervisors reviewed surveillance footage, which determined that due to a mix-up involving meal swaps, a few inmates received a second meal.

A 32-year-old man is wanted in connection to an aggravated assault case, according to deputies.

As a result, three inmates were left without a tray, according to officials.
The sheriff’s office stated the officer responsible for the swap called for three extra meals, which were delivered to the inmates within an hour of the swap.
According to officials, it could not be verified through video whether those trays were distributed to the correct individuals. Because of this, the on-duty captain issued a new meal to the entire pod of 28 inmates.
