MCCORMICK, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - McCormick County schools are looking to expand their drama club.

We spoke with the director to see how much it’s grown and how the club is hoping to attract more seniors.

If you go back three years, there was no drama club, so club director Jordan Huff jumped at the chance to create one.

“I loved to do theater in high school, so I’m going to do drama club,” said Huff.

The crowds in attendance now are nowhere near as big when the club started, as it was only made up of elementary students.

The next year, she added middle school students, then this year, high schoolers.

“Kids need a creative outlet, not everyone wants to do sports, they need other things to do, and theatre offers that,” said Huff.

It certainly did for Rianna Bickford.

“I’ve always wanted to be in the drama club. When I was younger, that was one of my main focal points,” said Bickford.

However, when she got to high school, her dream was non-existent.

“All throughout my high school career, they never had a drama club, and I was really sad about it,” said Bickford.

This year, Bickford jumped at the chance to be a part of the drama club, performing on stage for the first time.

Being a senior, it would be her only time. Still, she has a message for other high school students thinking about getting creative and trying something new.

“Do it just to see if it’s what you like,” said Bickford. “9 times out of 10, you can do it. After that one time on stage, it’s easy after that, surprisingly.”

Who knows, you may find talent you never knew existed.

If you’re a McCormick County High School student, the drama club really wants you.

You have twice a year to , and Huff says all you need to do is talk with your arts teacher, and she’ll do the rest.
